The Shamwari Group Game Reserves are flying their flags at half mast in honour of Dr Ian Player.

From our Group General Manager, Joe Cloete

“On behalf of The Shamwari Group we would like to express our sincere condolences to the Player family in particular, and to the staff of The Wilderness Foundation on the passing of Dr Ian Player.

Dr Player has always been a very special person to us at The Shamwari Group and has been our conservation mentor for many years. We will miss him dearly.

Dr Player was one of the key people behind saving the white rhino from extinction in the 1960's , and now in 2014 the saga around these animals has almost come a full circle with the species threatened with extinction. We will continue harder than ever to fight against the poaching of rhino and other animals moving forward.

We owe it to pioneers like Dr Player to save these animals from extinction.

R.I.P Madolo."
